In Follow the Leader to the Next Fad essay, it is mentioned how people can go from the very simple to the extreme to satisfy their ego. Herd mentality will never change because we are all part of the same consciousness; most of the people follow the crowd. A very recently type of herd mentality, we see everywhere, is the use of cell phones. From the office to bathroom, cell phones are the hottest fashion today; everybody carries one. Although cell phones can be important, they are also dangerous and annoying sometimes. For business people, cells are one of the best inventions in today's technology; business can be performed from anywhere in the world. Cell phones are useful to keep in touch with relatives, for special moments or for emergencies; however, some people dislike them since anybody can track them wherever they are. Cells are also dangerous because is well known that using this device while one is driving had caused accidents; additionally, Scientifics have discovered that the use of these apparatus can cause cancer to humans. Even though no one has been affected with cancer, it's a risk one takes with the daily use of this device. .
Another behavior of herd mentality could be the purchase of lottery tickets. For example The Super Lotto, a very tempting game which contains few millions of dollars at the beginning, but after some weeks can increases to hundreds of million. The millions of dollars in the lottery make people get obsess to win just one time that they spend thousand of dollars buying tickets, knowing there is very few who win. Some people keep track of every day winning numbers trying to guess which numbers would be more likely to win next time. Stores get crowd at the very last moment from people who tries to buy at least one ticket with a last dollar they have. Buying lottery tickets is a waste of money and time; people should be more interested in how to earn it not how to give it away.
