On the average a good manager spends nearly 80 percent of him time communicating with his employees. The basis for communicating successfully stems from the eight "C- words: credibility, context, content, continuity, consistency, channels, capability of the audience, and clarity ("Supervision-, 2002). The credibility of a manager is based on his words and actions. If a manager tells a group of employees that some type of action will occur and it does not, this erodes credibility. Management is looked upon to provide a good example for employees to follow. Supervision state that a "do as I say, not as I do- attitude can damage the context of a memo or proposal (2002). The content of a message must be very clear and concise. Management must inform the employees of all aspects of the events surrounding a particular procedure or event. They should continue to involve the employees in the happening of the company on a bi-weekly basis. Being consistent in communication with the workforce will eventually lead to a better relationship between management and employees. Management should send out memos, call employee meetings, and talk to the employees on a one-on-one basis to provide different channels of communication. Management must be universal in the language of the message sent to the employees to ensure the message in communicated to all the employees. Some employees may not understand the message due to its complexity, make sure the message is clear and to the point. Management must come out and state the information so all the employees can understand the meaning of the speech or memo. .
Body language can make or break a good verbal message. If what has been said to the employees is the truth, the speakers' body language must amplify those statements as being true.
