Quotes from Tao Te Ching

"The five colours make man's eye blind.
People are blinded by things on the surface. Fancy, shiny things constantly blind people. They get wrapped up in what looks good. They don't realize its only temporary. What you see is not always real. It is what you feel that is real. You can see a supermodel and they look beautiful. However, they are truly ugly people inside. When you feel beautiful, inside and out, this is when true beauty is present. .
Celebrities show this point very well. Many of those people are truly mean people. They are no where near a beautiful person. A homeless woman on the streets of New York City could be more beautiful than a person with all the riches in the world. Which brings me to the next quote.
"There may be gold and jade to fill a hall but there is none who can keep them." #23.
People in this world are so consumed with riches; the most expensive car, jewelry, house. Sometimes people are classified based on what they own. However, these things don't last forever and then what are you left with? If you live by your riches, what if you lose it all? What will you have then? People who are content in their every day lives, who are content in just being alive, will have an easier time if they lose what material possessions they have. These people are the ones who might have nice cars, or a nice house. However, they don't live by that. They live empty, ready for what comes their way every day. This makes them successful in the end. If they are already happy with themselves, how can they lose in the end?.
"Know contentment and you will suffer no disgrace." #100.
These people who are happy within themselves will not suffer disgrace. The little problems that happen in every day life won't seem so bad. If you know who you are, what your life is, if you are happy with all of this, you will not suffer when the little things happen. When people are not happy with themselves, if they are not content with whom they are already; they will suffer greatly when little things happen.
