Stem Cell Argument

Stem cell research should not be banned because of the vast amount of benefits it can yield. Stem cells, which scientists believe could be used to treat a wide range of degenerative diseases, can potentially grow into any type of human tissue. Stem cells are extracted from embryos which some Pro-life activists view as a human person. Even though the research is controversial many of the most controversial things are the ones that yield the greatest benefits.
I find Pro-life activists contradictive because they are supporting to ban stem cell research and cloning. Many would die each year and live a crippled life if we weren't to cure their diseases. There are many undeveloped embryos out there that are going to be discarded anyways so why put them to waste. In reality the true pro-life position on stem cell research is to support it.
Currently more than half of the US population supports stem cell research. So why is the funding of stem cell research halted? This is because of the lack of proper Pro-stem cell research activists. There isn't any opposing force to counteract Pro-life activists so therefore they have the greatest control over Congress. I believe there is no point in banning stem cell research in the U.S. this is because other countries will pursue this new field in biomedical research. I don't understand why one would put down the chance to cure diseases.
Stem cell research could cure many diseases such as Parkinson's, Diabetes, and Alzheimer's. It could also replace lost tissue such as muscles, and nerve cells which aren't regenerative. This research could also yield other benefits such as an understanding of miscarriages and improved in vitro fertilization. Whenever there are benefits there are also consequences. In this case the consequences are heavily outweighed by the benefits that can surface from this research. We are polluting the earth with all our industries but we are also living longer and have a better life.
