Frankenstein's Humanity

Mary Shelley wrote the book "Frankenstein; The Modern Prometheus," to tell a story about a man who's humanity is going down like a ski slope. Mary Shelley's idea of humanity is interesting and she showed a lot of it into Victor Frankenstein's character. Shelley's ideal definition of humanity contradicted Victor's own humanity. Victor's creative mind help create a being that will strip him of his humanity. This essay will help explain her ideas and my ideas on Victor's alienation, responsibilities, and feelings of being human.
Before the creation of the creature Victor said, "No human being could have passed a happier childhood than myself" (Shelley 45). This meant that he did feel like being human, because his friends and family surrounded him to give him comfort. This happiness of feeling human did not last long, because he had an idea that forced him to alienate all the people he cares for. Alienating society made Victor forget about society's acceptance of beauty. "Breathless horror and disgust filled my heart" (Shelley 61). This was what Victor said after the monster woke up. Society typically looks at appearance and judges something or somebody by it. Victor never really asked for advice on creating a creature. When he did share his ideas to Professor Krempe, Krempe rejected the idea and still Victor ignores him (Rehmann-Sutter 169). This ignorance and irresponsibility on doing the right thing leads to my next topic, which is responsibility.
After Victor made the Monster and it stood up, he despised it and hoped it went away. Well, Victor passed out only to wake up to a scary thing and like a wimp he runs away (Shelley 61). He should have realized that there would be a great deal of responsibility in maintaining this monster. The only reason his creature was a monster was Victor neglected it. After finishing the book, I wondered what would have happened to the monster if Victor took care of it? If Victor was responsible enough to take care of it and teach it human quality, then maybe his work could help the world.
