Her clothes had managed to get somewhat wet and with the cold breexe, it was absolutely numbing. She missed fooling around with her friends and doing childish things. She had just dried off her face when her eyes started to become blurry and tears rushed down her face. They stung in the cold weather and almost froze before hitting the ground. She decided she better find some place warmer. .
She had just gotten into this town last night and decided to venture around. Her feet ached from weary nights walking from town to town, not taking a chance of being recognized, as much as she wanted to be recognized. The thing she hated the most was walking alone, especially when it was quiet, when she had time to think about everything. She hated thinking. It only made things harder, and she knew it was her choice to be here. None but hers. She could have turned back. She never had to get on that bus that night, that dreadful night. "Stop!" she screamed out loud. She was sure everyone's eyes were looking at her but she kept her eyes on the ground. Never again did she want to think about that night. She didn't have to see their disgusted looks if she didn't look. She peered her eyes up to see where she was headed, only a few eyes were still lingering her way. .
She looked up at the street signs and noticed a map at a bus stop. She walked over to it and noticed a mall about two blocks away. A mother and child were seated on a bench at the bus stop waiting for the bus. The mother grasped the child's hand and slid down the bench, her eyes fixed on Cortnie. This was what made her heart ache. The lady's stare went right through her and pierced her heart, pain tingled through her body. Right there and then she wanted to knock her lights out but that would just make her what that lady thought she was, scum. She turned and walked away biting her tongue and clenching her fist till her knuckles were ghost white.
