Television: How It Might Affect Children.
When thinking about a significant argument to present, I ultimately chose to write about a simple medium of entertainment that people of all ages know and love - the television. The basis of my argument lies within the ideas of how it really might be affecting the children of America in prominently negative ways. These affects may not be known or realized by many people. In my eyes, children these days are growing up too fast emotionally and are not being instilled with the proper values that are vital to development. I believe that, in part, television is to blame for the corruption of youth. Television, as we know it today, has become a widely excepted epidemic that has profound negative effects on the development of children's social, psychological, physical, and academic well being. Many of these problems are affecting the children unconsciously and there is not enough being done about the issue.
First and foremost, television has the power to be highly influential on how children behave socially. The quality of the programs viewed on television by young people today are filled with images of violence, sex, drugs, and an assortment of other.
things similar. These images are often even portrayed as being great and glamorous. Therefore, they are giving children the wrong impressions on how handle those kinds of situations in real life. Children naturally tend to idolize who and what they see on television and therefore, they try to imitate it. When it comes to violence, three things can occur as a result: One, children may become less sensitive to the pain and suffering of others, both on television and in real life; Two, children may become afraid of the world around them and possibly even develop anxiety and sleeping disorders; And three, children may behave aggressively towards others. These are just some of the examples of how the improper quality of television can affect a child's social and psychological development.
