Heroism

Heroism and acts of heroism are found all through our modern day society in movies books, comics, news, songs and games. It is clearly an important part in the lives of Canadians. Is this outlook on heroism a new thing? Or has the belief and idea been passed down for centuries? It is a controversial issue indeed, and would cause much debate within peoples views and opinions. So do our modern heros follow the ancient heroic outline? The absent detailed birth, destiny, quest, journey home, reward and romantic elements? If we look at both the story of Moses and Luke Skywalker in Star Wars, we can probably conclude that our modern heros do reflect the value system from the ancients.
The pattern of the ancient value system, can be expressed as an equation into which characters and plots are substituted into. The pattern acting like a back bone and consistent structure for stories. If we look at the story of Moses, we see that he was hid from pharaoh for three months after his birth. He was then secretly cast away into the Nile where he was later found by the princess. Since his birth he was destined to do many things, such as remain in royalty, and rule as king. Also he was to lead the Israelites away from Egypt and slavery. He completed his quest by freeing the Israelite people. Along his journey home, pharaoh changed his mind about freeing the salves, and came after them with his army. Moses then parted the Red .

Sea letting the israelites pass, and closing the gap after, leaving pharaohs men dead. Moses was rewarded with social power, respect, and having all who followed, believe in his gods will. He also was rewarded with the marriage to his wife. If we compare this to Luke Skywalker of Star Wars, we can draw many similarities. Like Moses, he had a troubled birth not knowing who his parents were and how they died. He then joined the rebellion leading the group to destroy the death star an defeat the imperial troops.
