Classroom management is one of the biggest issues that I worry about being a concern in my future teaching. I think that management of a classroom covers a few issues like: grading system, room organization and most importantly discipline. .
Many teachers use different grading systems, different grade percentages and perhaps grade on a curve. I have seen many different systems throughout my high-school and college years. I don't know what system I will use. I do know that I won't use one of the higher grade systems that puts a smaller percentage gap for each grade. For example, 100-93 A, 92-85 B, 84- 77C etc. .
I think that a teacher should try and change around the room setting. I believe that if a teacher changes the room setup a few time a year, they will give their students something new and interesting. .
The area of management that I am most concerned with most is discipline. I believe that the right discipline plan may help or hurt a teacher and the students. One thing I will try to avoid is wanting to be friends with every student. I have had teachers in the past who are extra nice the beginning of the semester, then later, when they find that the class isn't at the level they want they try to be more forceful. I think that a teacher should come into class with the intention of being serious and at times stern, but approachable. Also, a little humor will help the students stay comfortable with me.
I expect that I will learn many different strategies in this class about the various aspects of classroom management. Then I can make my decision on what to implement in my classroom.
