The point is that everything that now exists was begun by God's act of bringing it into existence. In Gen. 1:1 when it states, "God created the heavens and the earth." it is not limited to simply those two things, but they are an expression that encompasses every existing thing.
When God created the world, what was His purpose? The Bible states in Ps. 19:1, "The heavens declare the glory of God; And the firmament shows his handiwork." Therefore, the purpose of all of creation is to glorify God. God didn't have to create, be He chose to do so out of His own will. This scripture shows us that even inanimate creation glorifies God.
There are so many gaps in the theories of evolution that scientists cannot come to an agreement in regards to the origin of mankind. However, unlike evolutionists, all creationists do agree on the origin of mankind: God created Adam from the dust. Still, Creationists do have varying ideas of the process that God used to create mankind, the world, and all the things in it. (Cypser 60) The Cypser also states, "Some think that God snapped God's fingers and the earth appeared instantaneously, fully equipped. Others feel that if there were a natural, but slow way to produce our planet, God would have gone in that less spectacular direction"(19). This is an area where there has been tension between science and the Bible. There have been attempts that have been made by scholars to date the age of the earth using the genealogies of the Bible. Arch Bishop James Ussher used the genealogies of the Bible and arrived at a date for the creation of the earth at 4004 B.C. (This would date the earth at approximately 6000 years old.). MacArthur states that .
Some scholars have suggested that there may be gaps in the genealogy, in which a generation or two is skipped and the name of a grandson or great-grandson is substituted for the name of a son. Such gaps can be demonstrated in some biblical genealogies.
