The second world war brought the attention of two men to millions of people. These two men were Benito Mussolini, the leader of Italy, and Adolf Hitler, the leader of Germany. Their documents, Mussolini's "The Doctrine of Fascism", and Hitler's excerpt from Mein Kampf, "Nation and Race", show the similarities and differences between these two men.
One of the most important things that these two leaders had in common was the style in which they ruled their countries. Both ruled with totalitarian characteristics, with only one leader making the decisions for the entire country, and giving themselves the authority to do away with any opposition. .
Although this type of rule may not seem appealing, Hitler used it to help Germany out of a deep economical depression, winning the hearts of many Germans. .
Although the two men were very different, and had different views for their countries, they still formed a pact to help secure their spot as universal powers. The Rome Berlin axis in 1936 bound Germany to Italy for the war, which would prove to be hazardous to Hitler in the future. .
These two were able to gain the amount of power that they had, because they were not viewed as threats by the League of Nations, or any other country. .
Mussolini invaded Ethiopia, and destroyed cities in Spain, and Hitler began to rearm his country. The League of Nations did not do anything to these two, because they did not view them as threats. They did not believe that they would do anything that would further harm others, or harm Europe. They had not encounter powers like these, and did not know how to deal with them.
With this newfound power, both men were able to rebuild their armies, and military force to help prepare themselves for future battles, Hitler able to continue his rebuilding. Hitler had more success, being able to capture many countries, including Poland, Belgium, and France, in the relatively short span of six weeks.
