Alcoholism is a Disease

Alcoholics often have a strong history of accidents, family and work problems along with alcohol related health problems. Alcoholics will sometimes quit drinking or switch from hard liquor to beer but this hardly ever lasts. Loss of control is the symptom I believe defines alcoholism, the alcoholic is helpless after he has began to drink, his body and mind are simply overwhelmed with alcohol, the person basically becomes helpless.
Alcohol plays major parts in more than half of all automobile accidents and fatalities and less then 2 drinks can impair a person to drive. In most cases people don't realize how intoxicated they are until they cause accidents or get arrested. Alcoholics usually tend to drink until they pass out and can't go on any more they tend to lose control of themselves. This is one of the popular symptoms of alcoholic's .For example I used to drink a lot with my brother I knew he drank a lot but I was too young to notice a problem, but eventually I knew that my brother couldn't stop drinking until he passed out or was unable to see. This is when I stepped in to tell him myself that he had a problem as a younger brother. Most alcohols wont realize how harmful it is until they hear it from a close family member or friend. .
Another symptom are cravings( a strong need, or urge, to drink) for alcohol during abstinence, ache of withdrawal and have a high rate of relapses are due to the brains addiction and tolerance of alcohol abuse (Torr 28). Most alcoholics don't seek treatment because of their lack of confidence and denial of their own alcoholic problem. The best treatment has been known to be group meetings with their own family and friends and other people that suffer from alcoholism. By doing this, alcoholics describe how alcohol has affected their lives and the people around them and realize how big of an issue it really is to them and their families. Co- workers play a big role, it is usually up to a good friend or boss to step up and say or do something.
