Pro Euthanasia

Unjust laws, like the apartheid laws in South Africa, should be eradicated. Due to the diversity of people in South Africa, the concept of freedom is relative. The law protects other rights and it will protect your right to choose death. "I have also learned that freedom is relative, that one's freedom should not harm others." (Mji, 2003) We must learn to accept that people have different opinions about personal matters, such as life and death. In South Africa apartheid laws have been abolished and abortion is legal. We must accept a moral plurality concerning the end of life as well. In a free democratic society, it is axiomatic that a person should have the right to make their own decisions on matters that are primarily their own concern. .
Some do not believe that death is primarily a personal concern. Conservative religious groups believe that life is a gift from a god. Thus, suffering and pain has a purpose. Similarly, more secular arguments claim that life has intrinsic value and to end it is wrong or against the natural order of life. Accordingly fate or nature guides our lives. In a country that advocates freedom of religion, its citizens cannot claim to be free if one group in society's morals and standards control the way they die. Be that as it may, "thou shall not kill" is not only a religious commandment, but also part of the foundation of a society that protects us from being killed by others. The opponents of euthanasia maintain that it is society's responsibility to care for the old, sick and disabled and not simply choose the easy way out and dispose of them when they become a burden. They do not fear the practise, but the consequences thereof. People euthanized against their consent concerns the medical practise and devious benefactors. The South African government will take drastic steps to ensure that in creating these laws they will safeguard minorities, the poor and the elderly.
