"Deviations" should be allowed to live a normal life. They are still human, which means they must have been created by God.

"Preacher-words!" he said, and thought for a moment. ". that a lot of people saying that a thing is so, doesn't prove it is so. I'm telling that nobody, nobody really knows what is the true image. They all think they know just as we think we know, but, for all we can prove, the Old People themselves may not have been the true image."(Wyndham, 64).
The Waknuk children are brought up believing that they are ruled by God, and the Fringes people, are ruled by the Devil. However, the Fringes people believe otherwise. When the Fringes people capture David and his friends, David is told that they are ruled by God, and the Waknuks are ruled by the Devil, because they are arrogant, and they cannot accept change in their lives. He learns that without change, life cannot go on, and peace will never be amongst people. The Fringes believe that Tribulation occurred because God wanted to show that change is part of life. The Fringes people are willing to accept change, and this is why they are butterflies, and the Waknuk people are chrysalids.
"" God?", I said doubtfully."They've always taught us that it's the devil that rules in the Fringes." He shook his head. "That's what they tell you over there."Tisn't so, boy. It's your parts where the Devil's hanging on and looking after his own. Arrogant they are. The true image and all that Want to be like the Old people. Tribulation hasn't taught them a thing The Old People thought they were the tops, too. Had ideals, they did; knew just how the world ought to be run. All they had to do was get it fixed up comfortable, and keep it that way; then everybody"d be fine, on account of their ideas being a lot more civilized than God's God doesn't have any last word. If he did he"d be dead. But he isn't dead; and he changes and grows, like everything else that is alive.
