The Axis of Evil

The "Axis of Evil" originally consisted of Iraq, Iran and North Korea, with Cuba, Libya and Syria added later.
George Bush named the "axis of evil" in his 2002 State of the Union address.
Cynical people argue that America just wants to "Americanise" the whole world, so it's ideals and influence (and corporations) can spread.
The "Axis of Evil" consists of countries believed either to be a threat to, or support terrorism against, America and its allies: George W. Bush said "States like these, and their terrorist allies, constitute an axis of evil, arming to threaten the peace of the world. By seeking weapons of mass destruction, these regimes pose a grave and growing danger. They could provide these arms to terrorists, giving them the means to match their hatred. They could attack our allies or attempt to blackmail the United States. In any of these cases, the price of indifference would be catastrophic.".
             Iraq.
George W. Bush said "Iraq continues to flaunt its hostility toward America and to support terror. The Iraqi regime has plotted to develop anthrax, and nerve gas, and nuclear weapons for over a decade. This is a regime that has already used poison gas to murder thousands of its own citizens -- leaving the bodies of mothers huddled over their dead children. This is a regime that agreed to international inspections -- then kicked out the inspectors. This is a regime that has something to hide from the civilized world.".
BUT Former UN weapons inspector Rolf Ekeus said Iraq sought the ability to produce weapons of mass destruction, but had none in storage after it destroyed them following the 1991 Gulf War.
BUT THEN, GWB said "I think he hid them. I think he dispersed them,".
America argues that the war in Iraq was the "first step in the spread of democratic values" and "the beginning of a new stage in Middle East peace".
Weapons of mass destruction are yet to be found in Iraq, although there is evidence which allegedly suggests Saddam Hussein has been seeking to build such weapons ever since the 1991 Gulf war.
