Animal Farm

In George Orwell's allegorical fable "Animal Farm" (1945), the animals drive the tyrant owner Mr. Jones off his farm and take the management into their own hands. The pigs formulate the Seven Commandments of Animalism, one of which is "All animals are equal", reflecting the American Declaration of Independence: "We hold these truths to be self-evident; that all men are created equal." In theory the society was to be a "classless society". The fact that this Commandment is later changed to "All animals are equal, but some are more equal than others" illustrates the corruption of people. In Orwell's fable some pigs want to enjoy more privileges than others, so they just change the law to fit it their requirements.
The original idea was to do away with discrimination, with class-distinctions and to treat people equally. Some time ago it was suggested that everyone should be paid the same amount of money, irrespective of what he does: a doctor should earn the same as a farmer. As everyone knows, the idea has not worked in the Soviet Union. People are different - and they want to be different.
When we talk about equality we do not assume that all people are identically devoted to studies, or hardworking. Working for equality means to end discrimination at different levels.
In education it means all children must have the same opportunities to attend proper schools. The state must provide schooling facilities for all people in the country, for the rich and the poor. Martin Luther King and the leaders of the civil rights movement advocated the desegregation of schooling. As a result of their constant efforts, school busing was introduced to bring about integration of whites and African-Americans.
Equality in employment means that it is unlawful to hire or dismiss people on grounds of their race, colour, religion, sex, or national origin. Men and women have equal employment opportunities and they are paid equally when they do the same jobs.
