"Step, Kick, Kick, Leap, Kick, Touch, Again- orders Zach, the director, to his group of auditioners for his new Broadway musical.
The ensemble dances to their best ability in the hopes of catching Zach's eye. By the end of the first number, "I HOPE I GET IT", the group has been cut down to a line of 17 members. .
Zach continues his audition with an unusual interview in which the characters reveal who they are in the hopes of being one of the 8 members offered a part in his show. This is the premises of "A CHORUS LINE", Quantum Entertainment's latest hit at the University of Miami in the spring of 2003.
Aside from the shows acting and singing, the characters were presented to the audience through their movements and dancing.
Each character has a particular style and mannerisms and these were exaggerated to the highest extent to differentiate one character from the other and set them as individuals. After all, the show is about people and their individuality. For example:.
Gregory:.
The character of Gregory Gardener embodies the stereotypical homosexual in the show. His mannerisms were flamboyant and included things like the "lose wrists" and shaking his hips he walked. His walk seemed to be more of a "sashe" than an actual walk. According to the Laban verbs, his movements made him a glide. His character best showed his dancing skills through his ballet because he was as graceful as a swan.
Cassie:.
Cassie is one of the few veteran dancers in the show. She has had many years of experience in the business and had repeatedly been the star of many shows when she was younger. Her movements support the fact that she is proud and confident. She walks with her head and chest high in the air and with a very straight posture. Her dancing certainly backed up her character as well because she had the style and talent to convince the audience that she was a star. She was confident, sharp and precise with her moves.
