             Nora tells Mrs. Linde about how she how she borrowed the money to travel abroad and who it saved her husbands life. .
             As Mrs. Linde and Nora talk, there is a knock at the door and Nils Krogstad enters. At the sight of Krogstad, Nora looks panicked. She asks what he is doing there. Krogstad, an employee at the bank that Torvald is employed, asks to speak to Torvald about his job. Nora is relieved that he was not there to see her. .
             After a brief meeting with Torvald, Krogstad leaves upset and is not sure what the future holds for his job. Soon after, he returns and asks Nora to place a good word for him. Krogstad threatens Nora and says that if he loses his job, Torvald will know the whole truth. Then we learn the secret that Nora has been hiding from her husband was the fact that she was got the money from Krogstad. .
             Nora does her best, but the job had already been given to Mrs. Linde, a former acquaintance of Krogstad. Torvald says that he fired him for things that had happened in the past. Receiving news that he has lost his job, Krogstad comes back to the house and speaks with Nora and leaves a letter in the post box, to which Torvald has the only key. Nora panics. Unsure what to do, she tells Mrs. Linde to get Krogstad to get his letter back, which can not be done since Krogstad has left for the evening.
             With the letter in the box, Nora tries every trick in the book to keep Torvald from checking it. Torvald can see that there is a letter from Krogstad and wants to open it. Nora begs him not to think about work and to help her in the dance that they will be performing at a party.
             While the Helmers are away at the party, Krogstad meets Mrs. Linde and talk about getting the letter before Torvald reads it. But they decided that it is going to be better if Torvald knows the truth. .
             Exhausted from the dancing, Nora allows Torvald to read the mail. He becomes upset and tells her how crazy she was for forging her fathers" signature to a legal document.
