The fourth and final part of Marx's theory states that, "The worker is alienated from other men, since capitalism transforms social relations into market relations, and people are judged by their position in the market rather than by their human qualities (Abercrombie)." This suggestion implies that because we lose the emotional bonds, work stops becoming social and people lose contact with other people in an emotional sense, only conversing for business purposes.
I work at a large corporation that has 1000's of stores worldwide, in over 50 countries. We sell everything from diapers to curtains to video games. At my particular store, I feel that these examples of alienation are not very predominant. I specifically work in the electronics department so in response to the first portion of Marx's theory, I feel that I do maintain an emotional bond with my services. I believe this because I"m not so much producing a product, but more so helping customers face to face and making sure they get all their questions answered. I am told what to do by a superior officer but it is the customers themselves who actually choose what I do. As for the second portion of Marx's theory, I think my situation concerning part one of his theory is very similar to part two. I feel as if I really help these people with a passion. .
I feel as if I am helping these people to advance technologically in the world and I think this trait is every non-animal like and so the third part of his theory does not apply to my particular situation. The portion of his theory that is not prevalent at all in my workplace is the fourth portion. I maintain a very close bond with my co-workers because we all share the same passion to help our customers as much as possible. We do have business relations but they are casual and we can maintain a social atmosphere at the same time.
