Conflict is a thorn in the heel of relationships around the world. Conflict is the same as an argument or disagreement among members of a team or as individuals. It is characterized by independence, interaction and incompatibility. When proper conflict resolution is utilized, all problems may be resolved and progression may grow.
There are three different areas of conflict: inter-personal, inter-group and inter-organizational, all of which can be very harmful in various situations. Inter-personal conflict comes from individuals within a team or group. Two individuals from within the group have conflicting ideas on how to resolve certain issues or problems. Each individual believes that his or her idea is better and should be used in order to achieve the determined goal. Therefore, inter-personal conflict is present. Inter-group conflict arises between two groups or teams who share the same goal but not ideas. For instance, this class has been divided into two teams, Team A and Team B, we have both been assigned the same goal but, we can not come to an agreement of how the situation should be resolved. Each team believes that they are right and the other team is wrong therefore, they have just created inter-group conflict. Inter-organizational conflict occurs between companies or organizations where many teams from different sides come together and ultimately clash. As like the other types of conflict, they all share the same determined goal but, each company or organization feels their ideas are more adequate than the others. These areas of conflict are based on the same thing: conflict. All situations are the same but, each type has grown into larger amounts of individuals and teams.
Understanding the types of conflict constructive and destructive, may be beneficial and detrimental at the same time. Constructive conflict has been determined to be the only type of conflict that has proven to be beneficial to success.
