Dorethea lange

 

The child's young and youthful bare body symbolizes the innocence of people. Maynard is grasphing his son closely to his chest with his two arms; near his heart. He shows the security in the relationship between a parent and a child. Showing the gesture of a never letting go manner. The arm underneath the child's bottom can be look as a symbol: "A push towards life" and a helping hand to the open doors of this new world for the child. Maynard whispers into the child's ear as if to confort and give the child a sense of security. Lange suprisingly captures also the sensitivity side of a man. Usually the male figure defined as strong-hearted, strong physically and even big and scary. But Lange's technique show a quite different definition, a strong man with big arms having a gentle touch to handle an infant, giving the child the security and reliance it needs.
             By the early 1930's the Great Depression had arrived in San Francisco. In 1932, Lange began to photograph people in their social contexts off and on the streets of San Francisco. Later she was involve with Migrant Farm Workers Program. Maynard and Lange were having difficulties and divorced in 1935. She then married with Paul Taylor, an economics professor at the University of Berkeley. With Paul , Lange had begun to work for California Rural Rehabilitation Administration. During this time Lange produced several enduring images of poverty and perseverance. Among those documented were her best work, which is widely know, the Migrant Mother.(1936) .
             Florence Thompson ( name of women) with her daugthers; Norma in her arms, Katherine left and Ruby. The mother married at age 17. Later on in 1926 Thompson moved westward with her family to be sadly strucken with bad luck. Her husband, the provider of the family, died with tuberculosis. .
             .
             The Migrant Mother is widely known for the symblo of hardship and proverty during the Depression time.
