             There are other singers and actors named Elvis. For millions of people around the world there is only one true Elvis - The King. Elvis Presley lived a great life and died; however everyone still remembers him as the King. .
             Vernon Elvis Presley was born on April 10, 1916. His father=s name was Jesse D. Presley. Vernon feared his father because Jesse=s habit was to leave the family on Friday nights and sometimes he would have to go to jail until Sunday after dinner. Vernon=s mothers name was Minnie Mae Hood. Vernon had many different jobs. He worked at the United Paint Company, Precision Tool, and he loaded trucks. .
             Vernon met Gladys Love Smith, and when he was seventeen, the eloped. During the marriage the grew further apart. Soon after Gladys death, Vernon met Dee Stanley. Elvis wanted his father to wait, but Vernon married Dee in July, 1960. In 1977, Vernon divorced Dee Stanley after Elvis died. On June 26, 1979 Vernon died, at the age of 63, of heart failure (AElvis@ n.pag). .
             On April 25, 1912 Gladys Love Smith was born. Her parents were Robert Lee Smith and Octavia Luvenia ADoll@ Manshell. Her family was very poor and moved after, mostly because of her dads moonshining business. Gladys cared for her brothers and sisters at an early age because her mother was not well. She was .
             always interested in education and schooling, but she could not go because she had to work to feed the family. .
             At seventeen Gladys eloped with a married man - needless to say it only lasted two days and was a disgrace. Gladys=s father died unexpectedly of pneumonia in 1931 when she was 19. Gladys then found a job near by Tupelo, and so she moved the family to East Tupelo. That is where she met Vernon. They married in 1933. She became pregnant with Elvis and Jesse in 1934. When she had them, Jesse was stillborn. The next day, they put his little body in a small cardboard box. .
             In the fall of 1948 they moved to Memphis, going for better employment.
