In the world of artistic expression, the change in perspective that arose with the rise of modernism was the biggest development in artistic representation. The old way of linear perspective was abandoned in favor of new ways of looking at objects and ideas. Experimental artwork consisting of areas consistent of form, content and presentation were brought forward. Anything to do with the old ways of artistic expression were rejected for being too old and conservative. The modernist artistic journey was underway. The age of early modernism is from 1863 - 1950. In early modernism the artist rejected the traditional forms of expression and created newly formed artistic expressions. This meant that they were no longer looking and using the long standing European ways of artistic form . The new work produced in that era was modern. This new way of thought included streamlined, neat and forward-looking design. Another aspect of early modernism was that some artists made emotional and very expressive paintings where the brushstrokes were visible and had the same importance in the work as the subject or people would. From what I learned from visiting the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, early modernism included many different sublets of artistic form. These sublets of artistic form include: .
Period of Time Type of sublet of Artistic Form.
1880 - 1920 Post-Impressionism.
1890 - 1920 Expressionism.
1903 - 1907 Fauvism.

• Post-Impression: During this period of modernism, the work of the artists revealed a freely expressive use of color and form. Artists were interested in color and in finding new ways of expressing the color they used. .
• Expressionism: This period was all about the depiction of emotions and the types of responses those same emotions evoked. .
