Going to Space and on the moon was one major human accomplishment. Now we are aiming higher and learning more. Many humans are testing the limits of the humans in space (like what are the reactions if you stay out in space for a long period of time). NASA is an organization that ships space shuttles up to space and is the base for going to space. The Mission Control Center (MCC) Commands and control all of NASA's human space flights operations. Many mission haved been passed to go to space and there are many to come. .
When time to launch the space shuttle generates about 7.5 million pounds of thrust. In space the shuttle has to refuel and that's where the Space station comes in handy. The International Space Station (ISS) is a creation of many parts combined in one in space (the process is not yet complete). As the space shuttle refuels in the space station or differs from the mission the Astronauts are given. After the mission is complete they return home. The Space Shuttle comes in the earths Atmosphere at alarming speeds that a 15,000 foot runway to land. There are many emergency landing sites like Ben Guerir, Morocco; Moron And Zaragosa, Spain; and Banjul in the Gambia. The stateside states are Edwards Air Force Base, California and White Sands, New Mexico. The Shuttle's external surface is protected by more than 24,000 tiles and flexible insulation blankets to withstand reentry surface temperatures as high as 3,000 degrees. Tiles and insulation blankets are inspected during prelaunch. If replacements or repairs are required, the Thermal Protection System Facility (TPSF) has the manufacturing capability to support most of the real-time Orbiter thermal protection system requirements.
Another accomplishment is the probe the reach mars and recorded info about the planet. This mission was Mars Odyssey. The probe was launched on April 7 2001 on a Delta 2 rocket from Cape Canaveral The probe, Odyssey, was sent to mars to see if there were any water on the planet, to record he temp there, also to understand the planet climate and geologic history a little better.
