A father and his little boy went to a toys store. After walking around the store, the little boy picked up a doll and asked his daddy to buy it for him. The father looked at the doll and laugh. He said to the boy, "You are a boy, not a girl. These toys belong to girl only, so be a boy and play with boy's toy. I am not going to buy that toy for you." I was there when this happen and it reminded me of the article "How Boy Become Men" by Jon Katz. The authors have state that boys are suppose to learn how to handle themselves. In the article, Jon Katz has showing us some of the boys problems from their journey becoming a man. Some of the boys are considered weird when they outstanding in reading, writing, or become friend with girls. This had brought back the memories of my childhood. Growing up to become a man was one of the hardest roads that I have ever taken before.
There are sets of ruthless, unspoken, and unyielding rules that boys have been following on their journey becoming a man consider to Jon Katz. He also said that there is one thing that boys don't ever want to be, it's weird. I had been experience with all that during my childhood.
I was about six years old and I did not understanding much about gender identity at that age. I was in second grade that time. Everyday, I went to school and played with all my friends, whose are boys. What we boys always did was played battle games, arms wrestling, or sports. My friends did not played with girls very much because whoever played with the girl was considered gay. I did not cared much about that rule because I played with the girls all the time. According to me, it was just nothing more than a friendship between the girls and me. When the boys discover about I was played with the girls, they all came after us to made jokes. They told the whole school that I was gay and they kept making fun of me all the time. From that time on, I did not befriend with the girls anymore.
