Place in Jazz is described very well from this quote taken from the narrator. She carefully describes how she feels about the city, which is where much of the story takes place, and the quote also paints a picture of how alive the city is with the angles and colors that exist in the early twentieth century during the jazz movement. The city is also is a very different place from where Joe grew up. .
The narrator who is female isn't really reliable or all-knowing, but is a female and that can be told from the way that she talks and her feelings towards the female characters. She also seems to be more than human, as in the collective consciousness for all of the characters. Being "crazy about the city- that she is in just shows the amount of love that many people have for a place like that which is so unique and shows off culture and heritage so well. Morrison does a good job of making sure the reader knows about all of the culture that existed in the city in the 1920's. Even the title "Jazz- signifies a little about the African American culture in the city. Jazz music was very big back then and the way that Morrison writes often times emulates Jazz music the way that it is so smooth.
The characters Joe, Violet, who also live in the city enjoy the place especially because of having been to other places like Virginia. .
