Evolution

Questions on the origin of life and the universe have peaked the interest of humans for a long time, ever since humans first looked up into the night sky and wondered "Why am I here? Where did I come from?" Philosophers, natural scientists, and theologians have each developed their own opinions on the origin of man and the creation of earth. The battle between man's God and Darwin has been a controversial issue for many years. Was it creationism, a work of God that the earth was created during the seven days of creation from the book of Genesis in the Holy Bible, or was it evolution, the thought that all species, humans included, are derived from one single ancestor that has brought forth modern day life as we know it today? Let this paper give you the facts and then you decide.
When Charles Darwin introduced the theory of evolution through natural selection 143 years ago, the scientists of the day argued over it fiercely, but the massing evidence from paleontology, genetics, zoology, molecular biology and other fields gradually established evolution's truth beyond reasonable doubt. Today that battle has been won everywhere--except in the public imagination. Embarrassingly, in the 21st century, in the most scientifically advanced nation the world has ever known, creationists can still persuade politicians, judges and ordinary citizens that evolution is a flawed, poorly supported fantasy. Besieged teachers and others may increasingly find themselves on the spot to defend evolution and refute creationism. The arguments that creationists use are typically specious and based on misunderstandings of (or outright lies about) evolution, but the number and diversity of the objections can put even well-informed people at a disadvantage. So what is evolution? Evolution is an ongoing process that has slowly continued since the beginning of time (Hojak 1). Webster states that evolution is a theory that the various kinds of plants and animals are descended from other kinds that lived in earlier times and that the differences are due to inherited changes that occurred over many generations.
