Today I am happy to bring you a very special guest. A man who followed one of his crazy childhood ideas that led him to fortunes. He is considered to be one of the smartest and wealthiest people in the world. He has given speeches in Washington D.C., to government leaders in Rome, and even to high school students. He is here to talk to you today about following your dreams and the difference you can make and the differences he has made in the world. .
Bill Gates was born on October 28, 1955 in Seattle, Washington. He lived with his parents William and Mary Gates and his two sisters. He was very intelligent as a child and was put into Lakeside, a private school that was known for intense academic environment. There he was first introduced to computers at the age of 13 and developed an interest for them. As a boy computers were only used by companies and the government for databases. The thought of personal computers was crazy but he believed that it could happen. (http://www.microsoft.com/billgates/bio.asp).
He was admitted to Harvard University in 1973. Entering Harvard he still had no idea of what he wanted to do so he decided to follow his father footsteps and entered pre-law. In 1974 he and a childhood friend, Paul Allen, got a huge opportunity to follow their dream of bringing computers into peoples own homes for personal benefit. They found a magazine that introduced a microcomputer kit that rivaled commercial models. He called the makers of the microcomputer and told them that they had software for their machine. This was a lie. They didn't have a microcomputer or even the chip that ran it. It was up gates to write the codes and for Allen to simulate it to the computer they had at school. It took eight weeks to write the program before they thought it was ready. The program was entered into the microcomputer and it worked perfectly the first time. Within a year he dropped out of college to start his own business.
