There are many events that have shaped the history of our country. Some of these events have had a dramatic impact on us and they are remembered forever. I am sure that you remember what you were doing when you heard that Princess Diana was killed in a car accident or when the devastation of nine-eleven occurred. Not all moments in history are as monumental as those. Sometimes life presents insignificant moments as well, but even these moments are considered part of our countries history.
I was born on May 1, 1984. There were many political, social, cultural, and economic events taking place during that month. While none of these events are earth shattering they still shaped the history for that time and I am sure that there are many individuals that were impacted by these events.
Only two days after my birth, Kathy Boudin, received a sentence of twenty years to life in a stat e penitentiary. She was involved in the Brinks armored car holdup in which a guard and two police officers were killed. She ha originally faced three consecutive sentences of twenty-five years to life but pleaded guilty and in exchange for a reduced sentence. Kenneth Gribetz, who was the Rockland County district attorney agreed that she was not directly involved with any of the murders but was an active participant in the robbery therefore he stated "she was just as responsible for the Brinks guard and the two officers as the person who shot the fatal bullet". The two officers, Sergeant Edward O"Grady and Officer Waverly Brown were members of the Nyack police department.
Ten days later, the dispute between Rockland and Westchester counties, over the costs of the Brinks trial came to an end. Rockland County agreed to pay over one and a half million in salaries and overtime to Westchester County. Westchester agreed to absorb the cost of equipment and supplies which totaled approximately two hundred and eighty-six thousand dollars.
