Power and imagination can lead to suffering and death but the ends always justify the means. Power can be a person having great influence or control over others. Imagination is the ability to form mental pictures in your mind. When all is said and done the ends always justify the means, whether it is realized or not.
After close examination of the story of creation, power and imagination play a huge role in the story. The story begins with God creating the earth and all her living creatures, including two humans, Adam and Eve. God gave Adam and Eve everything they would ever need, from fertile ground to grow crops to plenty of fruit trees. The only thing God asked of them was to not eat from the tree in the middle of the garden, the tree of knowledge. In return (for not eating from the tree) they would have eternal life with God. .
One of the creatures God made was the serpent. He was a sly and cunning creature who slivered around on the ground. The serpent was the most deceptive and canny creature that God created. He used his brainpower to convince Eve to eat from the tree of knowledge. God had told Eve that if she ate from the tree she would die. The serpent told her God was lying. The serpent also said, "You will not die; for God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened and you will be like God (ch. 3 line 4-5). .
While the serpent was talking to Eve she was using her Imagination to think about what it would be like to be and think like God. What it would be like to know everything God knows. Once Eve began to imagine the possibilities she decided to eat the fruit from the tree of knowledge. After she ate a piece she brought a piece to her husband Adam who also ate the fruit. .
Unfortunately none of them, Adam, Eve, or the serpent, used their imagination to consider the consequences of their actions. The serpent's punishment for being deceptive was that he was "cursed among all animals and among all wild creatures; upon his belly he will go, and dust he will eat all the days of his life.
