He stayed in monasteries to teach monks and traveled among the land to teach Buddhists the ways to end suffering until his death.
Buddhists believed and practiced the beliefs and teachings of Buddha. A common practice Buddhists perform is praying to a Buddhist altar daily. The purpose in this is to ask the Buddha to come down and teach us his wisdom until Enlightenment of the Buddhist is achieved. Many people visit temples, while others prepare their own altar at home. Each element in preparing the altar has rules, such as the location of the altar to the placing of offerings. Usually, an altar should be secured in a separate room, on the top floor, or at a quiet location. Images of the different Buddhas should be placed depending on their status, with the most superior being placed from right to left or at the middle and turning to the right and left hand side, respectively. Next to the Buddha are Dharma implements. At the very middle, the censer is positioned for the incense sticks. On either side of the image, there should be a lamp with a red light bulb turned on at all times and the offerings are always placed in the middle. .
Throughout the year, many Buddhists follow the lunar calendar. According to different events, a Buddhist prays or abstains from certain things. On the birthday of an important Buddha or Bodhisattvas, many worshippers visit temples to pray. If one can, on the first and fifteenth of each lunar month, one would only eat vegetables and abstain from eating any animal products. In their prayers, people ask the spirits to bless them, look after them in the year, and some also confess to Buddha. However, the purpose of confessing a sin or wrongdoing is to admit to oneself what one has done and not to Buddha. In this self realization process, one becomes aware of what he or she has done in order to prevent oneself from commit the act again.
The central idea of Buddhism comes from Shakyamuni; however, Buddhism has also changed and developed into different branches through time.
