Taming of the Shrew written by William Shakespeare and Ten Things I Hate about you, inspired by Shakespeare's play, Taming of the Shrew are two extravagant masterpieces that are able to capture and amaze their audiences. The movies have many similarities and differences some of which are minor and some of which are significantly major.
The first and most evident difference between the two movies occurs within the plot of the movies. In Taming of the Shrew, Katherina is a wild, loud mouthed daughter of a wealthy Italian nobleman named Baptista, and the sister of a beautiful girl called Bianca who live in the town of Padua. Baptista does not allow Bianca to get married until her sister Katherina gets married which creates many complications for Bianca as Katherina does not want to get married and more importantly no one at first wants to marry Katherina. .
However, a strong willed man from Verona called Petruchio comes along and changes everything. He is warned about "Kate the cursed" but is not disheartened as the large dowry payment for marrying Katherina is worth the trouble for him. .
When Katherina and Petruchio meet they exchange harsh words between each other and Petruchio chases Katherina around the house before finally agreeing with her father to marry her the following Sunday. .
Once the two get married and move in together he tames her through not allowing her to do anything until she respects him in the way a woman ought to respect her husband.
However, Ten Things I Hate About You is set in an American suburban modern day high school named Padua. Bianca is the most popular girl in her school and Kat is the wild beast who everyone fears. The main problem that arises in the plot is that Bianca can't date until Kat dates. Kate is very difficult to be with at school as her fellow classmates and teachers find her disobedient and highly critical. Cameron is a student of the school who falls in love with Bianca and knows that he can't date her until Kat dates.
