(Crapped Out, 49) The University of Baltimore did the same study, and concluded that sixty-three thousand people gained jobs because of gambling. (Crapped Out, 49) These two studies were conducted in the same city. How could the information differ with such a great margin? One can conclude that one, or both of the parties that conducted this study were not completely honest. .
Though there are gambling laws, surprisingly enough, there are no federal laws against them. All laws against gambling are formed by the state. This means that each state can have different laws concerning different aspects of gambling. Even though there are many gambling laws, illegal gambling happens all the time. For instance, many people do not even know the smaller rules on gambling. Many people do not even know that they are breaking the law when gambling. One law that is overlooked is the law that states it is illegal to have "bookies". For many, this is the only way to gamble. They unknowingly are breaking the law. Another simple law that is broken without concern is that one cannot bet on horse racing without being present at the track. The reason these laws seem insignificant and are so easily broken is because little is done to prevent or subdue breaking them. Not very often are police going to hunt down someone for breaking either of these laws. For this reason, there are many illegal casinos and illegal gambling. People do not take this subject serious enough. At one time in America, insuring cargo and ships was considered gambling. Many things were considered gambling by authority. States believed this was ridiculous, and had no choice but to allow forms of gambling. Today they are feeling the backlashes of this decision. .
Gambling is a sin. People are told gambling is a sin because it does no good for anyone. If one is religious, they want others to live happily and wholesomely. For people that do not gamble, it is easy to see how gambling disrupts this happiness obtained by leading a "good" life.
