Rape Is It Being Taken As Seriously As It Should

 

             What is rape? Rape, regardless of who commits it, is a felony of sexual assault that leaves the victim injured and traumatized. Rape is a misleading term which describes a serious crime. Also is misunderstood and under reported. Rape is the common cause of dieases, physical and emotional injuries, and unwanted pregnancies.
             Sexual assualt is an act of power and control and is not related to "sexual urge". All forms of sexual assault are crimes including: verbal, visual, audio, and force. Over 683,000 women are raped per year (National Woman's). 3% of rape cases have injures requiring over-night hospitalization ("Rape Fact Sheet"). That is 3 % too much. Out of all the victims of rape, 91% were female and 9% were male (National Woman's). If the victim was drinking alcohol or taking drugs at the time of the attack, sexual assault is still a crime ("Sexual Assualt").
             Some people, mostly teens, take rape as a joke. And usually, they"re the ones who been raped or sexually assulted the most. Out of all the women who reported being raped, 54% were under the age of 18 (National Woman's).
             In a survey of 11- 14 year olds, 51% of boys and 41% of the girls said forced sex is acceptable if the boy spent "a lot of money" on the girl. 31% of the boys and 32% of the girls believe that it is acceptable for a man to rape a woman with sexual experience. 87% of the boys and 79% of the girls believe rape is acceptable if the couple is married. 65% of the boys and 47% of the girls believe rape is acceptable after 6 months of dating ("Facts About Sexual Assault").
             In a survey of high school students, 56% of the girls and 76% of the guys believe that forced sex was acceptable under some circumstances ("Facts About Sexual Assault"). .
             Out of 6,159 college students at 32 institutes in the U.S., 54% of the women are victims of rape, 57% of the assualts occurred on dates, 55% had used alcohol or other drugs, 25% of the men admitted to some degree of sexually aggressive behavior, and 42% told no one.
