Some parts of the epic also took place in Pylos, Nestor's home; Sparta, Menelaus" Kingdom; and Ithaca, Odysseus" kingdom.
The mood and atmosphere of the story is filled with feelings of grief, determination, wit, hope, and true love.

• Odysseus- also known as Ulysses; King of Ithaca; considered as the shrewdest among the warriors; a Greek hero; thinker of the Trojan Horse.
• Penelope- wife of Odysseus.
• Athena- Goddess of War, Wisdom, and Handicrafts; a.k.a Minerva in Roman Mythology; favored the Greeks during the Trojan War; daughter of Zeus and Hera.
• Circe- a beautiful sorceress.
• Anticlea- mother of Odysseus.
• King Alcinous- king of the Phaeacians; ruled with his wife, Queen Acretes.
• Eurycleia- Odysseus" maid since childhood.
• Teiresias- a dead prophet who lived in the underworld.
• Calypso- a nymph who took care of Odysseus for 7 years.
• Polyphemus- a Cyclops; son of Poseidon.
• Menelaus- husband of Helen; King of Sparta; brother of Agamemnon.
• Nausicaa- daughter of Alcinous and Queen Acretes.
• Aeolus- God of the Wind; Poseidon's cousin.
• Telemachus- Odysseus" son.
• Eumaeus- a swineherd who accommodated the disguised Odysseus in his house.
• Mentor- disguised as Athena, when she spoke to Telemachus.
• Hermes- Messenger of the Gods; a.k.a. Mercury in Roman Mythology.
• Poseidon- God of the Sea.
IV- Plot.
- The epic Odyssey begins (as shown in the movie) when Odysseus bid Penelope, his wife, farewell. Penelope, who will be bearing Odysseus" son (Telemachus), tried to discourage Odysseus from joining the Greek expedition being afraid that Odysseus might not return and that, suitors might try to court her. Odysseus assured her in reply, "No matter what, you will always be my wife.
