Mothers and daughters

What is motherhood? Morning sickness, nausea, stretch marks, extra pounds, healthy diet, contractions and the arrival of a healthy baby? Of course not! Anybody knows better. Motherhood includes love, tenderness, care, concern, acceptance, patience sacrifice. That is nothing new. Those are well known ingredients of motherhood. What is the REAL meaning of the word? The Webster dictionary defines a Mother as "a female parent"? This is the understatement of all time, and I'd like to tell Mr. Webster why this description should be revised. A mother is a walking encyclopedia. Her children expect her to know where the sun goes at night, why the sky is blue and where kittens come from. A mother is a master mechanic who can get a pant leg out of a bicycle chain and fix anything with tape and a hairpin. She is a practical nurse who can remove splinters and loose teeth painlessly, stop an earache in the middle of the night, and pacify a case of chicken pox before a dance recital. Mom is that person who gives of herself for no really good reason for the benefit of another person. Mom is the person who on many occasions puts her interests second for the benefit of another. Mom is the one who seeing that there is not enough dessert left for everyone pronounces that she really never liked pie. Mom is the one who hurts when you hurt and rejoices in your triumph. Mom is the one who talks of the sunrise when things seem darkest, speaks kindly of failure and sings sweetly of success. However, with this in mind why are there so many mother-child conflicts especially mothers and daughters? .
No relationship is quite as primal as the one between a mother and her daughter.
When you're five, she's a goddess. You smear your face with her lipstick and model her earrings and high heels, wanting to be just like mommy. That's the way it is until you're about thirteen, when she suddenly becomes the most ignorant, benighted, out-of-touch creature on the planet, and you can't get far enough away from her.
