Home Invasion

scratched when the vandals tore our computer from the computer desk. The vandals must have been checking the remote to see which one went with the television, forgetting to turn it off in the process, leaving it loud with the sound of static. To this day, when I hear static on a television, it reminds me of that horrific day. After not wanting to go any further into the house, I made my way into our bedroom. Our mattresses were overturned, drawers were dumped out, the dressers were swept off, taking all jewelry with them, pistols were taken, boxes of important papers (sorted by years) were dumped into one big pile on the floor, and the French doors were kicked in where they gained access into the house. At last! The sheriffs department finally arrived, filling the driveway with squad cars. One unit had a canine to search the property to make sure no one was still inside the house. The investigator asked us to leave because he did not want us to mess up the crime seen. We only went as far as our garage because I was not leaving! Earlier, Gordy and Millie took our daughter to their house so she would not see the mess. After the last investigator left at midnight there we were, standing amongst a big mess. Where do we start? As we sifted through the mess, certain items started coming to mind that were stolen such as my mothers class ring, my husbands class ring, my necklace that had my kids birthstones in it, and my grandfather clock that was made for me by a special friend. These meant a lot to me. Most items were material, but one special item like my mothers class ring, hit a soft spot in my heart knowing I would never be able to replace it. We did not sleep a wink that night wondering who could have been so cruel. This happened two weeks after 9/11 so we were still in shock over that incident. The country is in shock, and yet people are still out to violate others.
