The right to privacy on the internet is a serious issue facing society. Some users of the internet wish to shield their identities while participating in frank discussions of sensitive topics while others fulfill fantasies and harmlessly role play under the cover of a false identity in chat rooms. There are people on the internet who use anonymous servers as more than a way to avoid responsibility for controversial remarks. Cases of harassment and abuse have become increasingly frequent, aided by a cloak of secrecy. There are also problems with frauds and scam artists who avoid law enforcement authorities through anonymous mailings and postings. Most users are concerned about the proliferation of information on the internet. .
For example, users of the internet feel that the Google website invades their privacy to an extreme extent. The users have discovered that if you type your phone number, including your area code, into the Google.com search engine, very personal, reserved information is given out. After approximately 3-5 seconds, the results show on to your screen as you sit there rather surprised. Because you have typed in the phone number, the owner of the homes" name appears; first, middle, and last, along with the address and a link that maps out the directions, from anywhere in the world, to their home. .
Another example of websites invading users personal information is a website called "Complete Detective". The sub title of this page reads, "Uncover Confidential Information Safely and Privately from the Comfort of Your Own Computer AND NO ONE WILL EVER KNOW!" For only a small fee, this website allows you to uncover personal information about neighbors, workmates, boss's, run multiple background checks on potential employees or tenants, obtain criminal records, learn what's stored in other peoples computers, and how to use it to your advantage, marriage, divorce, and birth records, driving records access on a state by state level, and much more.
