He knew of tricks to confuse Sparr of which way he was traveling. He once led Sparr and his men straight into a gunfight with the Apaches. Cassidy possessed the characteristics of a typical "western cowboy.".
             Those who knew him would consider Cassidy a cowboy hero. He safely got Dick and Pam to Alma and saved Dick's farm from Sparr. Sparr was holding Dick and Pam hostage, in hopes of taking over the ranch without anyone knowing about it. .
             If Cassidy hadn't shown up, then Sparr's plan would have succeeded without any .

On the road to Alma, the three, had to travel through the impossible Mogollon Mountains. Not only was this trek merely impossible, they conquered it in the snow and succeeded.
