What are music videos? Music videos are commercials designed to sell an artist or their album. What helps sell? According to video producers, women sell. When watching television, one may notice an increasing amount of "sexy" women. This is to drive the commercials towards men. Why would a commercial want to gear itself toward men? Why not women? Its questions like these that brought about the production of the film Dreamworlds 2.
Music videos in fact are just commercials designed to sell an artist. What does sell? Sex sells. Who, according to society, is more interested in sex? Men are supposed to be interested in sex more than women. It is not lady-like to be a woman and want sex more than a man. Ninety percent of music videos are directed by men, and in turn are causing them to be geared toward men. The director of Dreamworlds 2 says that this is because men want to see their "fantasy girl". Men are enticed by the woman, or in some cases women, and want a woman that dresses in sexy, skimpy lingerie. The woman, or women, is to be lusting for a man, willing to do anything possible to get with a man. This, in fact, may be a part of most men's fantasy. The music videos you see will show women dancing around, touching themselves suggestively and taunting men with sexual gestures. Then, in turn, the men approach the women and get what they want. Very rarely do they want a long-term relationship. It's all just meaningless one night stands where the woman is removed of her person as a whole, and turned into an object for men. Men look at a woman as an object of sexual affection. Their subjectivity is removed. They are to serve no other purpose than to please men. The videos show that this is what they want. They want men so badly, that if they can't have the men, they'll use anything possible to "get off".
The video shows off a lot of different points to prove it's thesis on the objectification of women.
