Appeasement

Therefore by letting Germans regain what they rightfully believed was there's it would remove German aggression and also lead to Anglo German friendship. France was also weak in its defence towards Nazi Germany. It had also suffered after the economic crisis and like Britain had little or no choice but to spend most of its resources building up its economy, therefore in self interest. It had no room to look at the situation as a moral guardian of Europe as a central member of the league of nations. .
There are 6examples of appeasement at work in the 1930s and their effect that they had apart from making Hitler aware of the complacency of Europe:.
             1) no action was taken against rearmament Lord Lothian ion 1935 stated his belief that Germany wanted a large army against Russia. This was in 1933 and here Britain forsook Eastern Europe as low on its priritys to Germany in return for the British Empire. .
             2) Anglo-Naval agreement breaking the stresa front .
             3) No real strong brit action at Abyssinia.
             4) No stance against Hitler's invasion of the Rhineland.
             5) No intervention of the Spanish civil war During the 1930s Britain and France also lost a very influential former ally Mussolini .The Spanish civil war in 1931 can be viewed as a microcosm of the European situation. Here Germany and Italy backed the fascist rebellion while Russian backed the communists. France was willing to intervene however Britain intervened and stopped them. Therefore this shows that Britain and France were placed in-between the two unwilling to join either side or outwardly disapprove in fear of a war.
             6) Many in Britain felt Anschluss was a natural union.
Therefore the wrongness of appeasement is largely contextual. All concessions among adversaries cannot be misguided, or else politics would consist of little more than fighting.
The idea of an entente with Britain was very appealing to Hitler however after years of appeasement it was with Russia whom Britain choose to make an entente with.
