Zionism started with Hertzels" vision. After seeing the true face of anti-Semitism, he decided that the only solution to prevent the "final solution" was to create a state, a homeland for the Jewish people. A place where the Jews, if ever hunted down or banished from the place they lived, could go. A government that would give them the freedom to express their Judaism with out discriminating against them. When looking at the situation today we can observe one of the most ironic changes of fate. Israel was created as "night shelter" to protect the Jews if they ever needed it. Today, Israel is the only country in the world that Jews are killed consistently strictly because of the fact that there"re Jews. If the igniting force that drove early Zionists has not only failed but has turned its back on them, what would keep an old fashion Zionist here in Israel?.
After the story of Noah all of the people of the land got together and wanted to build a tower that reached heaven to "fight" with G-d. At first I took the story on base level and assumed that the people were primitive. They thought that G-d was in the sky in the heavens and wanted for one reason or another to try to reach the heavens and in some way show G-d that he wasn't any greater than them. What was the Torah trying to teach us with this story?.
The Mei Shiloach explains that they were fighting G-d and preparing and escape route. The building of migdal bavel came as a reaction to the flood. The people wanted to do evil but were scared that G-d would bring another flood and destroy the world again. They decided to build a really tall tower in an attempt to survive another flood.
Everyone at that time spoke the same language and G-d decided that a fair punishment would be to create different languages thus making it virtually impossible to finish the building of the tower. Each person would only understand his own language and no one would be able to communicate.
