A very entertaining and enjoyable film which dealt with the personal experiences of a twelve year old boy .
With his mother Marcus and his mother appeared more like friends. He in many ways had to take on the role as the parent as his mother was depressed and suicidal. They had a fairly good relationship and Marcus would always be at his mothers defence and try to make her as happy as possible no matter what the cost. His mother wanted the best for Marcus but in some cases wasn't what Marcus needed. The both looked out for each other and loved each other very much and in my opinion that made them strong.
At school Marcus didn't seem to enjoy school. He was always picked on whether it be for singing out loud or for his clothes or appearance. Marcus tried not to let this bother him and he did fairly well. He didn't have any friends and he was lonely most of the time and considered an outcast.
With Will Marcus in my opinion looked up to Will in a father figure manner. Marcus and will had a strange relationship, and in many ways Marcus taught will many lessons about life. Initially Marcus tried to set up Will and his mother together but that didn't work out and they became friends in a way, and more father and son like in another.
With Ellie Ellie was Marcus first crush, she was a grungy girl who never really took any notice of Marcus. When they began to get to know each other she stuck up for him and he began to fall in love with her. He had never felt this way about a girl and she didn't seem to mind.
Marcus and Wills relationship changed continuously throughout the movie. At first Will disliked Marcus and was just using him to get to a girl. Will had never liked children but used them as a way to pick up women that was until Marcus found out he didn't have a child and had been lying. After a fair bit of time together to make up for the lie, Will realized that Marcus wasn't all that bad and began to enjoy his company.
