Sexual Harassment

Take my friend for example. I found out that she has been sexually abused since she was a little girl. Out of fear for her family's safety, she never spoke up. Other people that he took advantage of finally said something and he was ordered to go to court. From the government being irresponsible, the court date and miss-communication with his green card, he was sent out of the country. The court date expired and they never took the initiative to look into it again. Ellen Goodman in her article said, "There is a standard emerging by which the courts can judge these cases and by which people can judge them as well." However, how can he or anyone else be judged by the legal system if there was no court hearing? This man is now a fugitive in the state of California and Arizona and will probably never serve time for his crime. More than a dozen girls and young women where taken advantage of and they will never have the satisfaction of knowing that the man that inflected pain upon them will ever pay for it. Something has to be done about the irregular punishment in our government. Make it fairer to those that are just joking around and harsher for those that cannot keep their hands to themselves.
The influences men and women have a great effect on one another. For instance, I read an article in the Sacramento Bee recently which talked about sex offenders other people that have violated the law. The article stated that four out of six released prisoners continue on committing crimes. They manipulate the system and the people around them. Many of the cell mates pick up on the characteristics of their fellow mates and are influenced by them. Acting on the newly developed skills that they have been taught, on burglary, theft, and different kinds of assaults. There is a great demand to be accepted by the same sex and especially the opposite sex. This brings me to my other point on how the work environment can be intimidating and be used as a tool to others.
