Valencia Community College has a few standards which students are expected to maintain. These standards are called core competencies. The core competencies are divided into four groups: think, act, communicate, and value. Why are these four competencies important to the curriculum at Valencia Community College?.
Think is vital to the core competencies. Obviously, everyone needs to be able to think. They should not only think, but they should expand on their thinking. There are a few ways of interpreting the word "think." One person may translate the meaning to be "thinking clearly. This is as basic as it gets. Then there is logical thinking (or critical thinking). This is also sometimes referred to as common sense. In addition, someone else may construe think to mean that they should think creatively. One should let their thinking go above and beyond all known limitations. An example of this kind of thinking is designing a new way of doing things.
In addition to Think, Act is also extremely important. There are many different ways of how to act. One can act purposefully. After all, there is a purpose behind every action. In addition, one can act responsibly. Everyone knows right from wrong. As adults, we should always act responsibly. .
Communicate is also a core competency listed on the curriculum, as well as Think and Act. In all environments one should know how to communicate. Communication is a key factor in being a success in life. There are several methods of communication. There are written forms of communication, like this essay. Written communication, or documentation, is vital in any career one chooses. Another form of communication is oral communication. This describes people talking to one another. It is self explanatory how valuable oral communication is in our community. Another form of communication is non-verbal communication. Everyone has heard the phrase "actions speak louder than words".
