From the eye of American culture, Asians are "noticed" in society. But, the American society (Blacks and Whites), are indifferent toward the Asian community. While interviewing Andrew Ha, I received a shock of reality that I had never witnessed before! Prior to this interview I did not have that much recognition about the Asian community. I categorized them as somewhat overlooked. I didn't think much of them. And Andrew taught me that those were the beliefs of many of the people within the American society!.
"It was weird, all Asians were good for were our females, the women were liked by all of the American men, because of their fetishes of Asian women. And our men were just stereotyped as like Buddhist, monks, and having to do with martial arts (Ha).".
             .
Starting with history, many things helped me conclude to the statement that Americans" are indifferent to the Asian community. The first was Andrew's knowledge about early Asian culture. Andy stated that the Asians never had there own Civil Rights movement, like the blacks had. In today's society, "much black culture is accepted, like music and clothing, but the Asian cultures were forgotten and ignored." Unlike everyone else, the Asians had to adapt to other people's cultures. It was like everyone over looked the Asian community, they had to adapt other people's customs in order to become noticed. Thus leading to today, where we do not see the customs and traditions of Asians expressed throughout society.
Today, it's more common to see the "white and black" society portrayed. There are many black television shows and channels that portray their lifestyles, like "BET." Within the area of Philadelphia, BET is one of the most popular stations on televison! In contrast, the show "All-American Girl," about Margaret Cho adapting to the American society, was booted off the air and called racist by many Americans. Many people didn't find interest in the Asian aspect of the show.
