Slavery

There are several ways that a person can become enslaved. Some are just simply born into slavery. If they are born into a certain tribe or family that already serves as slaves, they too will become one just like the generations before and after them. They belong to their "master" and whatever offspring they have will continue to serve. If someone is in debt, they will work as a slave to the person they owe until their debt is paid off. People promise themselves and family members into slavery as safety in opposition to a mortgage usually taken out in an emergency. The amount owed is rarely ever paid. While working, the slaves work up new debts for food, clothes, and shelter that the employer charges a great deal of money for. Things like this will bring about being born into slavery because the debt will become so great, that it will have to carry on into the next generation and perhaps some after that. People used to be lured into slavery with whips and chains, but now, deception is the only tool used and it has proved to be more effective than weapons. A certain people are offered the job of working in fields making a lot of money. Upon arrival, they find themselves working in the fields, but being paid nothing and constantly under heavy guard. In Brazil, families are lured into the Amazon and forced, at gunpoint, to make charcoal in dangerously hot ovens. However, women are lured into jobs as waitresses or maids, but then dehumanized when forced into a life of prostitution. Shockingly enough, if a family is in enough debt, parents will sell their children into slavery. Although this only happens in countries ridden by poverty, it is quite disturbing to know that parents would do anything, even sacrifice their child, in order to pay off their debts. Instead of being sold, some are abducted and enslaved. Militias would run rampant through villages and markets destroying everything. They would kill every man and take the women and children and bring them into slavery.
