Marriage Supper of the Lamb

"Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb.
Everyone loves a love story, and what better love story than that of the Marriage of the Lamb? This is a marriage such as could never be imagined on this earth, for it is the wedding of the Son of God to the One whom the Father has chosen to be His Bride. If you can imagine the affections and expectations of a wedding in our human terms, how much more does all heaven anticipate the day when the Father will present the Bride to His Son, the bridegroom?.
This story of the marriage of the Lamb cannot be viewed only under the microscope of today's society, but needs to be compared to the time in which the story was written and the customs of that day. There are three major parts to this form of wedding; the betrothal, the presentation, and the marriage or the marriage supper.
Marriage was not a young man and a young woman deciding to further their relationship, it was a contract that two young people had no choice or say in. This contract was usually signed up between the father of the boy and the father of the girl, when they were very small children. A bill of divorcement could only break the betrothal. As you will recall, Joseph and Mary were betrothed when Mary was told she was to conceive Christ. At this point, Joseph had one of two choices. Either he could have accused her before the judges and had her stoned for being unfaithful, or he could put her away privately. You see, they were already considered husband and wife even though the actual ceremony had not taken place yet. "In the spiritual realm, we find that this betrothal of the believer to the Lord Jesus Christ took place in eternity past. Before you and I were born physically, we were betrothed by the Father to the Son." Ephesians 1:3 says, "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ: according as He hath chosen us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love.
