Martin Luther King was an American religious and civil rights leader who achieved many great things in his life. He fought and struggled to change the ways of the society he lived in. He believed "injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere". Born in Atlanta and grew up to become a minister, He went to a university and got many degrees. During his life he was awarded many awards for all of his hard work. .
Martin Luther king led many protest marches and delivered his famous "I have a dream" speech. He was a man who changed civil rights for African Americans. He was assassinated and although his life was cut short, his beliefs and views changed the treatment of African Americans forever.
Just like his father Martin Luther King became a minister and spent his life greatly involved with the church. He was raised in a Christian home and entered the Christian ministry at the age of 19 in 1948. He became assistant pastor of Ebenezer Baptist Church. From 1960- 1968 he was co-pastor with his father at this church, then later became pastor of Dexter Avenue Church. .
Martin Luther King was the founder and president of Southern leadership conference and rice president of the National Sunday School and Baptist teaching union congress of the national Baptist convention. His involvement with the church influenced his approach to the civil rights movement and he based his non-violent ideas on Christian teachings of love, goodness and forgiveness. .
In USA during the 1950's and 1960's Martin Luther King was the main leader of the civil rights movement. He effectively expressed the demands of African Americans for social justice. King started his civil rights activities with a protest of Montgomery's segregated bus system in 1955. This started when a black passenger disobeyed the law and refused to give up her seat, the law at the time required all blacks to give up their seats for white people. The African Americans formed an organization to run the Boycott and Martin Luther King was elected President.
