The Shawshank Redemption

Essay on The Technical production of the movie.
The technical production in the Shawshank Redemption was excellent. Through the use of both sound and visual effects Darbont makes the movie memorable.
Sound is used effectively through out the film. In the beginning the use of dull music gives the viewer a negative view of the prison. On Andy's first night in prison the lights go out and the prisoners start taunting each other. Listing to grown men like "Fat ass" lose control because of the taunting is a very powerful part of the film. Because of the actions of the other prisoners "Fat ass" starts crying for his mother.
Andy manages to gain control of the prison Intercom, normally for messages of authority and plays opera by Mozart; this is very powerful in that it gives the prisoners hope in the otherwise drab prison. Red said, "I have no idea to this day what those two Italian ladies were singing about. Truth is, I don't want to know I"d like to think they were singing about something so beautiful, it cant be expressed in words and for the briefest of moments, every last man in Shawshank felt free".
Visual effects are also well used in the film. At the beginning during Andy's trial cross cutting is used to show us Andy that day and the night of the murder, it gives us the impression Andy is guilty. When Andy arrives at the prison low camera angles are used well to show the power held by the prison authorities over the prisoners. This combined with the dull colors used paint a very depressing view of the prison.
Flash backs are also used very effectively after Andy's escape, this enables Red to show us how Andy escaped. Cross Cutting is used again in the final scene when the police arrive to arrest the Warden. As they make there way to his office it cuts into his office where he has a gun, back to the police, and finally to the warden where it shows they stitch work on his wall "His judgment cometh, and right soon", he then shoots himself.
